Panthers' Depth Chart Ahead of NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is less than a month away and with the free agency period quieting down this is what Brandon Croce believes the Carolina Panthers depth chart would look like if the season started today.

Notes

  • At this point in the offseason, I would expect Jarrett Boykin to line up on the outside opposite Kelvin Benjamin while keeping Ted Ginn Jr. inside in the slot. The former Green Bay Packer had a great stretch in 2013 when he replaced the injured Randall Cobb. If the Carolina Panthers don’t draft a wide receiver high in the draft, Boykin should be a key piece to this offense in 2015.
  • There should be a three way competition between Jonathan Martin, Mike Remmers and Nate Chandler during training camp for the right tackle position. I am giving Remmers the nod here because of how strong he finished 2014 and it should be his spot to lose. This would allow Martin to be the primary backup and both left and right tackle.

Colin Jones

Strong Safety

Roman Harper

Robert Lester

Right Cornerback

Josh Norman

Carrington Byndom

Notes

  • It may be a little ambitious to consider Charles Tillman as the starting cornerback opposite Josh Norman. He is 34 years old and has played only 10 games the past two seasons but right now he is the team’s best option. I don’t expect the signing of Tillman to stop the front office from drafting a cornerback in the NFL Draft, and it may be earlier than later.
  • Similar to right tackle, I expect the weakside linebacker position to be a three man competition between A.J. Klein, Adarius Glanton and the recently signed Jason Trusnik. The former Miami Dolphin was signed for his special teams play but he provides depth at linebacker and could be the best suited to start at strongside along Kuechly and Davis.

Special Teams

First String

Second String

Punter

Brad Nortman

Kicker

Graham Gano

Long Snapper

J.J. Jansen

Punt Returner

Ted Ginn Jr.

Brenton Bersin

Kick Returner

Notes

  • A season ago, the Panthers struggled to find a strong return man with Brenton Bersin struggling for a majority of the season. The team has addressed this and brought in both Ted Ginn Jr. and Jordan Todman to handle the return duties.
