Even though Carolina Panthers' quarterback Cam Newton is expected to be fully healthy, he will be without his top pass catcher Kelvin Benjamin. The team’s number one wide receiver is expected to sit out OTAs after suffering a hamstring injury last week, according to The Charlotte Observer’s Jonathan Jones.
The injury doesn’t seem to be considered serious and the move is primarily precautionary. At this point in the offseason there is no reason to try to push it and possibly create a lingering injury.
The fact that Benjamin will not be on the field presents a great opportunity for some of the other players to start and solidify their position in the depth chart.
The front office has brought in a ton of talent at the position with second round pick Devin Funchess as well as Ted Ginn Jr. and Jarrett Boykin to compete with Jerricho Cotchery and Philly Brown. Jones notes that second-round pick Devin Funchess took first-team reps at all three different receiving slots.
