The Carolina Panthers have been hit with the injury bug early in training camp with defensive tackle Star Lotulelei being the latest injury. On Monday, he left practice early and head coach Ron Rivera described it as foot soreness.
Unfortunately, it has been determined to be a little more serious than just soreness as he has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his foot. Lotulelei will remain in a walking boot and be re-evaluated in a few weeks.
The Panthers are going to have to be extremely cautious with this injury as this is the same foot that Lotulelei broke during practice leading up to the game against the Seattle Seahawks in the playoff.
The defense is going to be without their starting defensive tackle tandem for at least one practice. Kawann Short has missed the past three days with back soreness. Rivera said after practice today that “He’ll see the doctor tomorrow in Charlotte. Everything looks positive. It’s just a matter of working him back into shape.”
The only positive for these injuries is that both have happened early enough in training camp. Lotulelei and Short will have a little over a month to rest up and be ready for the start of the regular season, if they need it.
