Panthers Top Team in NFC South in Madden 16

The start of the NFL season also means the latest addition in the EA Sports' Madden franchise. Thanks to a strong finish, the Carolina Panthers edge out the other teams in the division as the top rated team.

EA Sports recently announced the overall team ratings for each team in the new Madden 16 which is expected to be released at the end of the month. The Carolina Panthers were given an overall rating of 80 which is the highest among the teams in the NFC South. EA Sports wrote about the Panthers:

“The Panthers won the NFC South (and a playoff game) with a 7-8-1 record last year, their second straight division crown. QB Cam Newton (90 OVR) enters year five with a couple of great targets in TE Greg Olsen (92 OVR) and second-year WR Kelvin Benjamin (86 OVR). HB Jonathan Stewart (84 OVR) is healthy, and the clear starter for the first time in his career.

For the defensive front seven, MLB Luke Kuechly (96 OVR), LOLB Thomas Davis (90 OVR), LE Charles Johnson (89 OVR), and 2nd-year man DT Star Lotulelei [88 OVR] are standouts. CB Charles Tillman (81 OVR) is a quality new addition.”

After the Panthers, was the New Orleans Saints at 78, Atlanta Falcons at 77 and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 74. The Bucs were actually tied for the third lowest overall team rating in the NFL.

Even though Carolina was the best in the NFC South, they were rated middle of the road in the NFL finishing as the 16th best team in the NFL. In terms of individual rankings, the Panthers only have two players who were rated in the Top 5 of their respective positions.

On the offensive side of the ball, Greg Olsen was the fourth rated tight end at 92. Meanwhile, middle linebacker Luke Kuechly is the highest rated linebacker in the NFL at 96 and also the highest rated player on the Panthers.
