Carolina Panthers Sign 10 to Practice Squad

The Carolina Panthers brought back 10 players to their practice squad that were cut yesterday.

The Carolina Panthers brought back 10 players to their practice squad that they released during their final round of cuts on Saturday. This is the full list of players the Panthers signed to their practice squad:

Position Name College
CB Lou Young Georgia Tech
CB Carrington Byndom Texas
DE Rakim Cox Villanova
DT Chas Alecxih Pittsburgh
LB Adarius Glanton Florida Atlantic
LB Brian Blechen Utah
OT David Foucault Montreal
TE Scott Simonson Assumption
WR Brenton Bersin Wofford
WR Damiere Byrd South Carolina

One thing that is clear is this practice squad has a great deal of experience. Wide receiver Brenton Bersin was the team’s primary return man towards the end of the season and saw playing time throughout the year at wide receiver. Linebacker Adarius Glanton started two games at the end of last season and had a role on this defense into the playoffs.

The Panthers also may have found a diamond in the rough in Rakim Cox, who led the Panthers in sack with one against the Buffalo Bills in the first game and one in the last game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The team also brought back defensive tackle Chas Alecxih and linebacker Brian Blechen, who were some of the highest rated Panthers on defense this preseason, according to Pro Football Focus. The defensive tackle out of Pittsburgh, saw the second most playing time, and finished with a rating of 2.5. Meanwhile, Blechen was given a rating of 1.7, with a majority of it coming in the final preseason game thanks to a strong run defense rating (1.2).

The one thing that is surprising was the fact that none of these players were claimed. Every player on the practice squad was with the Panthers during the preseason. This is great for the Panthers because the coaching staff now doesn’t have to worry about teaching the playbook to any new players and they focus just on preparing for the Jacksonville Jaguars next weekend.
