·         Generally the Carolina Panthers have used Wednesdays as rest days for their veterans so it hasn’t been uncommon for the injury report to be longer than usual. However, this week four of the players out of seven players who did not practice have known injuries. This group includes Jerricho Cotchery and Daryl Williams had injuries prior to Week 3 that forced them to last week’s game.

·         The surprising name on this list was Luke Kuechly, who Ron Rivera sounded much more optimistic about playing in Week 4 on Monday than he did Wednesday. Earlier in the week, he had mentioned that Kuechly had made it to the next step in the concussion protocol and would meet with the independent neurologist on Tuesday. This was the last step needed to be cleared of the concussion protocol. It is safe to assume since he was not on the practice field, that he had not cleared this final step.

·         The Panthers are hurting at linebacker with Thomas Davis dealing with his own injury, a pec injury that was suffered against the Saints. The fact that he was able to practice, even though in a limited capacity, is certainly a positive sign. His status for Sunday’s game is going to be the one that will probably be the closest watched this week.
