Carolina Panthers' Kawann Short Wins NFC Defensive Player of the Week

For the second time this year, the Carolina Panthers have a member of their defense win NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

After a two sack performance against the Seattle Seahawks, defensive tackle Kawann Short won NFC Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second time a player on the Carolina Panthers has won the award this year as cornerback Josh Norman won the award after his Week 4 performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Short was as close to dominant as a defensive tackle could be finishing the game with five tackles to go along with two sacks and is easily having the best year of his three year career. Many times Short is forgotten because he was the second defensive tackle drafted by the Panthers after they used their first round pick on Star Lotulelei.

Through five games, Short has 16 tackles, two sacks and two passes defended and is well on his way to surpassing his career highs from a season ago when he registered 40 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two passes defended. Pro Football Focus has rated Short as the fourth best defensive tackle in the league and third best when it comes to rushing the quarterback.
