The Carolina Panthers hope that the entire team will be in San Francisco for Super Bowl 50 but they know one player from the organization will be. It was announced on Wednesday that linebacker Thomas Davis was selected for The Bart Starr Award. He will be honored with the award at the Super Bowl Breakfast.
According to the award's website, "Nominees are gathered from the Public Relations Directors of each NFL team, the past winners of the Bart Starr Award, the Athletes in Action Pro Staff working with NFL teams and Bart Starr. Ballots are sent to each team and voting takes place at the same time as the Pro Bowl selections. The votes are tabulated and the winner is announced at the annual Super Bowl Breakfast."
The award is named after Bart Starr, the Hall of Fame quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. He went on to win multiple Super Bowl MVPs, one league MVP and named to six Pro Bowls.
It has been a busy year for Davis, who won Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award last February and earned his first Pro Bowl appearance this year.
Davis told Panthers.com about the award: "It means a lot to win the Bart Starr award, and hearing that I won it from Mrs. (Cherry) Starr was exciting. To be recognized for an award that is voted on by my fellow players and carries Mr. Starr’s name speaks volumes. I’m truly honored to be selected."
