After the Super Bowl Ron Rivera mentioned that he hopes to start the offseason workout activities later this season due to the Carolina Panthers deep playoff run. Well, it appears he got his wish as the team will be holding their workouts the latest of any NFL team, with the first day being April 25th.
The majority of the teams will be holding their first day a week earlier on April 18th and there are three teams that will have their first day as early as Monday (Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers).
In the Collective Bargaining Agreement there are three phases to the offseason workout. Phase One is strictly strength and conditioning which will run for two weeks from that first day on April 25. Then in Phase Two, which runs for three weeks, the Panthers can do on-field workouts, however it is limited to individual player drills and no live contact drills.
In the final phase, the Panthers may hold 10 days of OTAs but again no live contact is permitted but the team may run 7-on-7, 9-on-9 and 11-on-11 drills. The Panthers will be holding these workouts on May 24-26, May 31, June 1-2 and June 6-9.
Each team may then hold one mandatory minicamp, unless a team has a new coach in which case they can hold an additional voluntary minicamp. The Panthers will hold their Mandatory Minicamp on June 14-16.
In addition to these camps, the Panthers will be able to hold one rookie minicamp which will take place on the first or second weekend after the NFL Draft.
