Norwell stepped in at left guard for the injured Amini Silatolu against the defending Super Bowl Champions at the time, Seattle Seahawks, in Week 8 of the 2014 season. He has gone on to start the next 27 out of 30 games for the Panthers over the past two seasons.
Recently, Elliot Harrison of NFL.com released his All-Under-25 Team and it included the Panthers' starting left guard. Harrison wrote about Norwell:
The hidden secret to the Panthers' success in 2015 was the improved play of the offensive line, including Norwell. The left guard allowed all of two sacks in 2015. Of course, a guard's main focus is to pound in the run game, and the 24-year-old succeeded in that area, as well -- Carolina's ground attack (and the play of back Jonathan Stewart) greatly contributed to the team's Super Bowl run.
As Harrison noted, the Panthers' offensive line improved tremendously last year but that improvement really started in 2014 when the team inserted Norwell and right tackle Mike Remmers into the starting lineup along with the return of Trai Turner from injury.
The Panthers once again should have strong play from their offensive line in 2016 with everyone returning from last year.
