Carolina Panthers' Cam Newton Wins ESPY for Best NFL Player

After a season that earned him the league MVP and the number one spot in NFL Network's 'Top 100 Players of 2016', Cam Newton took home the award for the Best NFL Player at the ESPYs.

It has been a busy few months for the Carolina Panthers and in particular Cam Newton after leading his team to their second trip to the Super Bowl as an organization, and Newton's first. He has gone on to win the league MVP and was recently voted as the top player in the NFL Network's 'Top 100 Players of 2016'.

On Wednesday night during ESPN's annual award show, the ESPYs, Newton was named as the Best NFL Player.

Newton had a special season last year with 45 total touchdowns, 10 of which were rushing, and the Panthers' offense finishing first in scoring by averaging over 30 points per game. The Panthers were also the last undefeated team this past season by winning their first 14 games and finished the regular season with a 15-1 record.

Newton also was nominated for the 'Best Male Athlete' award however was beaten out by Cleveland Cavaliers' superstar LeBron James.

Even though he didn't win both awards he was nominated for, the former first overall pick had an incredible season last year and the accolades he has received since then is a testament to that.
