Carolina Panthers: Bene Benwikere Taken Off PUP List

The Carolina Panthers got back one of their starting cornerbacks Wednesday when Bene Benwikere practiced for this first time at training camp.

The Carolina Panthers' secondary got a significant boost on Wednesday with the return of Bene Benwikere, who started training camp on the physically unable to perform, PUP, list.

Benwikere is trying to work his way back from a season-ending leg injury that forced him to miss the last two regular season games and the entire playoff run last year.

According to the team site, Benwikere was able to participate in the individual drills as well as some of the team activities. However, he was a bit rusty.

"I told him, 'Well, you’re looking pretty rusty,'" head coach Ron Rivera said. "He knows, and he’s just going to keep working, hopefully work himself back into it."

The former fifth round pick is expected to have a major role in this secondary after the departure of Josh Norman and hopefully develop into a leader with three rookies at the position.

The reviews early in game though have been positive as Daryl WorleyJames Bradberry and Zack Sanchez have taken advantage of the extra reps with Benwikere.
