There was nothing really shocking for the Carolina Panthers' offensive depth chart in their first release of their depth chart. They basically have the same lineup they did from Super Bowl 50, except for the addition of Kelvin Benjamin to the starting lineup.
It is interesting to see David Foucalt listed as the backup left tackle for this team. The undrafted tackle from Montreal is entering his third year with the team but hasn't seen much playing time since his rookie season. The thought was that Jordan Rigsbee could challenge him, however he is the third string right tackle in this depth chart.
It is also surprising to see Fozzy Whittaker listed as the backup to Jonathan Stewart. Second-year backs Cameron Artis-Payne and Brandon Wegher have had strong camps and it was expected that one may challenge for that spot.
The youth movement is in full swing at the cornerback position as rookies James Bradberry and Dary Worley are first string and Zack Sanchez is listed as second string. The team also placed veterans Bene Benwikere, Robert McClain and Leonard Johnson all behind Worley. If the coaching staff is committed to starting two rookies on the outside at cornerback, Benwikere would be the logical choice for nickelback.
It is also interesting to note that A.J. Klein is listed at the second string postion for both strongside linebacker and middle linebacker, while David Mayo is the primary backup at weakside.
It will also be worth watching the battle for backing up Charles Johnson at left defensive end. Right now, Wes Horton is listed there however he suffered a wrist injury during Fan Fest and this could be an opportunity for a player like Rakim Cox to step into that role.
It appears that veteran Mike Scifres has the inside track on the punter position for the Panthers. The team decided not to bring back free agent Brad Nortman and have been in search of his replacement and Scifres looks to be the guy at this point of training camp.
It is also a bit surprising to see Robert McClain's name as the second string punt returner behind Ted Ginn Jr. This could help him make the Panthers final roster, even though he is currently third string at cornerback.
