NOTES, QUOTES, ANECDOTES

"When the schedule came out I was disappointed to see our bye week so early but I think the time of was needed by the time we finished the Tampa Bay game. That was physically and emotionally draining game that followed a similar kind of game against Jacksonville. Now we need to play like we benefited from the break." -- Panthers head coach John Fox.

--Panthers defensive tackle Brentson Buckner said he wants no part of picking up an additional role on offense as a receiver who catches passes similar to what Tampa Bay defensive tackle Warren Sapp did last week against Atlanta.

But Buckner said fellow defensive lineman Julius Peppers would be great in that role given his athletic ability. Peppers is not only an outstanding pass rusher, but also played college basketball for North Carolina.

"Julius is one of those new-age athletes and can play anywhere on the field," said Buckner. "I mean what defensive back is going to jump over a 6-foot-7, 280-pound wide receiver like him? He could do that because he is so athletic."

--This week's game against the Falcons begins at 4:15 p.m. after being changed from the originally scheduled 1 p.m. start. The change was made to accommodate television.

BY THE NUMBERS: 6 -- Consecutive losses to the Falcons.
