Cat Tracks Against Green Bay

QUARTERBACK

It was Chris Weinke's least efficient performance of the year, going just 18-30 for 160 yards. But there are reasons for that that aren't his fault. A pair of special teams turnovers in the second half, and poor field position put Weinke in the position that he had to pass the ball...and the Packers knew it. For the most part, Weinke again showed relatively good decision-making and saw one touchdown pass called back on a hold and then, he had a first down-length pass on a 4th and 14 dropped. RUNNING BACKS

Tshimanga Biakabutuka was inactive for this one...Richard Huntley seeing his first action of the year. But there wasn't much there. Part of the problem was the horrible turf conditions that made an "up the middle running game" nearly impossible. As a team, the Panthers rushed for just 36 yards. CAT TRACKS: 1 1/2 PAWS

RECEIVERS

Tight end Wesley Walls was back in the game plan, pulling down 4 catches (one for a touchdown) after being shut out in Atlanta last week. Donald Hayes had four catches and Muhsin Muhammad had 3. But, Moose also dropped one when he was wide open on a 4th and 14, but he also had a wide open touchdown catch called back on a holding call. CAT TRACKS: 2 PAWS

OFFENSIVE LINE

This one is tough to call...how much of the Panthers running problems were due to the poor turf? For the most part, they did a decent job protecting Weinke until Carolina fell so far behind that Green Bay knew they had to pass each time. Bottom line, there wasn't much spectacular here and there were a couple of costly penalties. CAT TRACKS: 1 PAW

DEFENSIVE LINE

They did a much better job containing the Green Bay running game than they did a week ago at Atlanta. The Packers gained just 75 yards on the ground and the dangerous Ahman Green got just 53. But, they weren't able to get a lot of pressure on Brett Favre. CAT TRACKS: 2 PAWS

LINEBACKERS

Again, nothing outstanding here, but they did correct a lot of the problems they showed against Atlanta. The loss of Dan Morgan could prove to be costly. CAT TRACKS: 2 PAWS

DEFENSIVE BACKS

The return of Mike Minter had an immediate impact. They got the Panthers' offense the ball twice in the first half, but they didn't take advantage of it to put any points on the board. They did a decent job keeping receivers in check, but the lack of pressure of Favre gave him too much time for these guys to keep containment. CAT TRACKS: 2 1/2 PAWS

SPECIAL TEAMS

Steve Smith's two lost fumbles to open the second half kill their score. Ultimately, they turned the tide in this game, giving Green Bay the boost they needed. John Kasay didn't attempt a field goal due to the poor field conditions. CAT TRACKS: 1/2 PAW

COACHING

The Panthers showed up with a decent game plan and, in the first half, they executed it well. Some well planned plays came up empty due to drops or penalties. Can you really blame the coaches when a player just drops the ball....twice? CAT TRACKS: 3 PAWS
