Panthers New and Notes and info on the Panthers draft

--The Panthers added Mike Gillhamer as a defensive assistant/secondary coach, head coach John Fox announced last week. A veteran of 19 coaching seasons, including four in the NFL, Gillhamer comes to Carolina after spending last season as the defensive coordinator at the University of Louisville.

Gillhamer will work closely with secondary coach Rod Perry.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "We think we will get a deal done with the Panthers here in the next couple of days." -- Agent Brad Blank, who represents backup defensive end Kavika Pittman.

There is no doubt John Kasay will be the team's kicker for the long term after signing a five-year deal worth $8.5 million that included a $2 million signing bonus.

Kasay made four game-winning field goals during the season for the Panthers, but also botched a late kickoff in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

DRAFT PRIORITIES:

Cornerback - The Panthers would love to have a shut down corner and may go after Philadelphia's Troy Vincent if he's released by the Eagles.

Outside linebacker - Look for the Panthers to find someone who can play in case Mark Fields can't make it back from Hodgkin's Disease.

Wide receiver -- The Panthers would like to add a speed receiver and this may be a position they address in the draft.

Guard – Since the Panthers lost Jeno James, they will need a new starting guard.
