Moose, Morgan and Peppers go Bowling

2005 marks the return of Muhsin Muhammad to the Pro Bowl. Muhammad made his first trip to the Pro Bowl in 1999. He currently is one of the leaders in the NFC in touchdowns and is fifth with 79 receptions.

"Moose made a lot of big plays for us last year," Fox boasted about one of the Panthers team captains. "He's been very important to us as a blocker. He's a complete player. I thought he was very, very valuable to us last year, and he's really stepped up and built on that this year."

Dan Morgan makes his first Pro Bowl appearance, even after missing several games with concussion problems. However, Morgan proved that he's one of the best in the NFC, when healthy.

"He's a guy that definitely has Pro Bowl talent," Fox said of Morgan. "He's played in some big spots for us. Down the stretch last year in the playoffs, he was beyond outstanding and when he's been on the field this year, he's been beyond outstanding. Aside from the injuries, which were frustrating probably above all for him, he's more than deserving."

Peppers makes his first appearance in the Pro Bowl after being an alternate the last two years. Peppers missed the Pro Bowl after being suspended four games in 2002 for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. Peppers was offered a spot on the squad last season after injuries opened a spot for him, but he could not accept it due to prior commitments.

"In my opinion, this has been his best season with us," Fox said when asked about Peppers' selection. "I think every game he just gets better and better and I think he'll continue that for some time."

Mark Fields was a first alternate, and Jake Delhomme, Mike Minter and Karl Hankton were 2nd team alternates. John Kasay was the 3rd alternate at kicker.

Missing out on the Pro Bowl is Punter Todd Sauerbrun, who had made the squad the last several years.

Fox was proud that many of his players received the recognition they deserved.

"I think they are all very deserving," Coach Fox told the media on Wednesday. "Congratulations are in store for them. They've been a big part of our turnaround, and hopefully, we can carry that forward."
