Panthers release Muhammad

The Carolina Panthers released All-Time Receptions leader Muhsin Muhammad. Muhammad was scheduled to receive a roster bonus of 10 million dollars on Wednesday.

The Panthers part ways with the former 2nd round pick out of Michigan State, who came to set Panthers records in Receptions (578), receiving yards (7,751), and touchdowns (44).

"The efforts to get a contract extension on Muhsin were unsuccessful, and we have decided to release him," Marty Hurney told reporters on Friday. "Muhsin has been a valuable member of our team, and we appreciate everything he has done for the Panthers."

Muhammad's release and the possible retirement of fellow receiver Ricky Proehl has suddenly made WR more of a priority in the upcoming draft and free agency.
