Minter: "I looked bad out there"

Panthers strong safety Mike Minter was beaten for a 41-yard touchdown pass by Amani Toomer in the second quarter of Saturday night's 27-21 loss to the Giants after mistiming his jump to break up the pass.

"Man, it was just bad," Minter said after the game. "I looked bad out there. I looked rusty out there. That is why I hate missing practice. It's imperative that you get used to football. To come back the first game and do it like that, man, that's bad."

Minter missed more than a week of practice and Carolina's preseason opener after spraining his knee during the second week of training camp.

He also said he was slow in adjusting to what the offense was doing, something uncharacteristic of his game.

"I had some bad reads, too," Minter said. "My reads are not there yet. Playing the ball, you have to be doing that all of the time. But it will get better. I had to get this one behind me."
