Detroit Lions

FB Cory Schlesinger (broken left fibula) worked with the scout team and on special teams but it is uncertain if he will be ready to resume his lead-blocker role in the Lions game Sunday against Carolina.

QB Jeff Garcia (broken fibula and sprained ankle) did some limited throwing in practice Wednesday but will not be available to play against the Panthers.

WR Roy Williams (quadriceps) is not likely to play against Carolina, although coach Steve Mariucci has not ruled him out.

PR/KR Eddie Drummond (shin, knee) says he feels considerably better but has not been cleared to practice.

DE James Hall, who missed most of the past two games with a groin injury, said he is still awaiting a diagnosis after seeing a specialist. He did not practice Wednesday and remains uncertain for the Panthers game Sunday.

Carolina Panthers

Along with the team's top three backs - Stephen Davis, DeShaun Foster and fullback Brad Hoover - missing practice on Wednesday and being listed as questionable, the Panthers have to keep an eye on cornerback Chris Gamble, who is still bothered by an ankle injury. Gamble tried to play last week but was limited by the injury and struggled keeping up with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin in the first half before being benched.

"It started bothering me a little bit so I told them I wanted to sit out," Gamble said. "I didn't feel like I was able to move and jump and break on the ball like I wanted to ... I told them to take me out."

Gamble said after the game he would be ready for Detroit, but he was held out of practice on Wednesday.

Return man Rod Smart will probably not play Sunday because of a groin strain, leaving Jamal Robertson to return kickoffs.

Also, linebacker Vinny Ciurciu returned to practice Wednesday, although he is listed as questionable with a knee injury. Quarterback Jake Delhomme did practice and will play Sunday despite a bruised quadriceps.
