Injuries mount in win over Bears

The Panthers may have secured a trip to the NFC Championships in Seattle next week, but they'll be without one of their offensive stars for sure, and possibly one on defense as well.

Starting RB DeShaun Foster broke his ankle early in the third quarter, and will be out for the rest of the playoffs, at least. Foster is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Nick Goings will resume the feature back role against Seattle, a role he thrived in last season. Goings ran for 821 yards in just 8 starts towards the tail end of last season as the Panthers made their playoff push.

This year, Goings will reap the benefits of his hard work: starting in the NFC Championship.

The Panthers had another scare during the game when Pro Bowl DE Julius Peppers left the game after a hard tackle on RB Thomas Jones. Although Peppers did not return to the game, he noted that his shoulder was "fine" and that he would be playing next week in Seattle.

All the injury news aside, the Panthers are in the NFC Championships for the second time in 3 years.

"I couldn't be more proud of a bunch of guys," Coach Fox said after the game. "To do what they have done so far in the playoffs. To go to New York and win and then come here and win, those are two huge obstacles, and we have another one standing in front of us in Seattle."
