The Rookie Report

The latest info on how the rookies are doing in camp.

RB DeAngelo Williams is doing a fine job of picking up the offensive scheme and is fitting in well with his teammates.

Williams has also been working as the team's first-team kick returner, but is still technically third on the depth chart at running back behind DeShaun Foster and Nick Goings.

DeAngelo hasn't had much problem fitting in with his new teammates, the result of his outgoing personality. Tight end Michael Gaines joked Williams talks as much as anybody he's ever met and it's hard not to like his upbeat behavior.

"I'm like, DeAngelo, be quiet," Gaines said. "You talk ALL of the time. When you talk more than me, you talk a lot.... Believe it or not, he keeps me upbeat. He's like, 'Are you and me going to talk today, Mike?'"

--CB Richard Marshall is working as the No. 4 cornerback right now behind starters Ken Lucas and Chris Gamble and nickel back Reggie Howard.

--OT Rashad Butler is competing for a backup spot with Todd Fordham and Dave Kadela.

--SLB James Anderson has received some reps with the first team, but is still playing behind Na'il Diggs.

--TE Jeff King has looked good catching the football so far.

--S Nate Salley has picked up the defense quickly and should start at Free Safety if Mike Minter doesn't return in time for Saturday's game with the Bills.
