The Panthers' Pulse - 1-29

These next few weeks should be interesting to write about with the draft and free agency approaching, a new offensive coordinator in the mix and a few surprise cuts lurking in the dark.

Like we spoke about on the radio show last night, (we did it last night instead of tonight, for some reason, ask Mike), the Panthers could go any number of ways with their first round draft pick this year. You'd figure that safety would have to be high on the list, but with guys like Aaron Rouse and Josh Gattis rising up the charts and impressing during Senior Bowl week, they may be able to nab a starter in round two.

Linebacker is also an issue, with Dan Morgan's long term status always in question. Buster Davis has been impressive, as has Paul Posluszny from Penn State. Posluszny may be around when the Panthers draft 14th, but his stock has been rapidly rising lately.

Michael Griffin, a safety out of Texas, reminds a lot of people of Thomas Davis in the fact that he could probably bulk up a bit and play linebacker. I was pleased to find out that the Panthers were showing interest in him during Senior Bowl week, as he is the kind of player the team needs in the secondary.

One can't help but to think about all the possibilities that having DeAngelo Williams on the field presents. Just the flashes that we saw this past season gives Panther fans reason to be excited, after all, there is a new offensive coordinator in town and he's saying all the right things lately. There should be a RB controversy in Carolina this season.
