Yesterday on Sirius NFL Radio, former Tar Heel and Cincinnati Bengal Brian Simmons stated that he felt he was a good fit for the Panthers, and was interested playing for the team.
According to one of Simmons' agents, Gerald Colton, the feeling isn't reciprocated by the Panthers. Colton told PantherInsider.com's John Watson earlier today that he "seriously doubts he'll end up in Carolina", and that he really didn't see any interest in Simmons by the Panthers.
A native of New Bern, North Carolina, Simmons was also a standout at the University of North Carolina and was drafted in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft by theCincinnati Bengals. Simmons played with the Bengals for 8 seasons and was a leader in the locker room before he was cut due to salary cap reasons yesterday. He can play both inside and outside linebacker, and could fill a big need for the Panthers.
