Gilbert lost for the year, Morgan out 3 weeks

DT Sean Gilbert is lost for the year, and leading tackler LB Dan Morgan is out for 3 weeks

Charlotte, NC - Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Sean Gilbert is out for the rest of the season with a broken right hip, and linebacker Dan Morgan will be out 3 weeks because he needs hernia surgery.

Morgan is the third Carolina player to require the operation this season. Kicker John Kasay and cornerback Dante Wesley also have had to have this surgery.

"I've coached in the league 12 years and we've never had one and then we've had three since I've been here," Fox said. "We're looking into everything. (We're) researching the league and finding out if they are having an epidemic like we have and then research anything we are doing that would cause it."

Morgan, leads the Panthers with 58 tackles. He missed a game two weeks ago with a strained groin, but was able to play against the Bucs.  During the game however, he left the field in the first half after aggravating the injury.  Morgan did return in the third quarter and played until the end.

Gilbert, who had been moved into a reserve role this season, has just 10 tackles this season.

"He had done everything we asked of him," Fox said. "We had him come in and be a third tackle when we picked our team and Sean had played 17 or 18 plays a game. His best game was yesterday."
