Jason Carter out for season

The Panthers will have to look elsewhere for help for their depleated receiving corps. Jason Carter, the promising receiver who was the talk of training camp, tore an ACL in the win over the Washington Redskins on Saturday.

Carter injured the knee on a punt return in the fourth quarter of Saturday's blowout win.

Carter, a 6', 205 lb. receiver out of Texas A & M, was entering his third season as a pro. Many thought Carter had earned a roster spot after playing well in training camp and after Steve Smith earned a two-game suspension for attacking cornerback Ken Lucas a few weeks ago. It was widely speculated that Carter would step into Smith's role as the speedy receiver until Smith's return.

For now, it appears the Panthers will have to scour the waver wire or hope that Dominique Thompson, Chris Hannon, Travis Taylor or the injured Ryne Robinson can step-up in the next week and fill Smith's shoes.
