Peete the starter on Sunday.

Fox decides to go with quarterback Rodney Peete as the starter for Sunday.

Charlotte, NC - The future is now for the Carolina Panthers according to head coach John Fox. The Panthers will stay with quarterback Rodney Peete for this Sundays game againt the Cleveland Browns.

"Rodney Peete will be our starting quarteback this Sunday. As far as our second and third (quarterbacks), we won't make those decisions until game time," Fox said.

There was some talk that the Panthers would go to quarterback Chris Weinke or even rookie Randy Fasani, to try to end the eight-game losing streak.

"We're attacking these five games to win, not anything about getting anybody ready for the future," Fox said. "We think our future is to win now."

Fox thinks that Peete will give the Panthers the best chance to win the football game on Sunday, and don't blame all the losing on the quarterback.

"(Peete) gives us the best opportunity to win, we've been competitive in nine of 11 games, and I think he's been a big part of that. Of late, I don't think anyone on offense has helped matters. It's not just the quarterbacks," said Fox.

The Panther and Fox say that either Weinke or Fasani could be the quarterback of the future but he is sticking with Peete for now.

"I think Randy and Chris Weinke are the quarterbacks of the future," Fox said. "They're young. They need development. When given the opportunity, we've gotten them development. The biggest time of the year to do that stuff is in the off-season and the preseason."

The Panthers could draft a quarterback in the first round of the draft next year to be the quarterback of the future.
