Panthers sign RB Hicks

The Panthers signed running back Skip Hicks and placed running back Lamar Smith on injured reserved.

Charolette, NC - The Carolina Panthers signed free agent running back Skip Hicks on to a two-year contract. it appears unlikely he'll have enough time to learn the playbook and see much, if any, action for the Panthers in either of the next two games. Hicks was released in the preseason by the Tennessee Titans and has not played this season.

Hicks could see action against the Bears on Sunday.

"The coaches were telling me I'd have a good opportunity here, so hopefully I can make the most of it," Hicks said.

Head Coach John Fox likes Hicks a lot and he will give him a shot to be successful and Fox thinks he can. Hicks did well in the Panthers work out and the team wants to give him a shoot.

"He's got a good burst, lots of speed, scored a lot of touchdowns at UCLA, and I can't answer that yet until he's been with us and I get a chance to evaluate him," Fox said.
