QB Profile: Carson Palmer

The Panthers will be looking at a quarterback in the 1st few rounds of the NFL Draft and here is the profile of Hesiman winner Carson Palmer.

Carson Palmer, USC, Senior 6-5 220

Profile:  Palmer had a great season and ended it all with winning the Hesiman Trophy. Palmer has everything that NFL scouts look for.  He has good size, strength and decent foot speed.  Palmer has very good arm strength and this season he has improved on being a more accurate passer. Palmer can read the defense and knows where to go with the football, but he needs to improve getting the ball to the spot. Palmer can move and shows decent foot speed, plus he know how to move in the pocket to avoid sacks. Palmer has improved and jumped to the top of the class for the 2003 NFL draft.  He has more raw skills then last years first round pick David Carr.

Fit with Panthers:  Palmer would be the Panthers franchise quarterback for many years to come if the Panthers end up drafting him.  He would go well with last years second round pick RB Deshawn Foster from UCLA to provide a great one-two punch for the future.

Projection: Palmer could be the first pick in the draft or could slide down to # 9 where the Panthers are picking. If he is there at the # 9 pick the Panthers will have a hard time passing him up.
