Charlotte, NC – The Carolina Panthers will be getting a visit from former Washington Redskins running back Stephen Davis this week. Davis who has already visited the Houston Texans early this week is looking for a place that he can finish his career with, and the Panther feel like Charlotte is that place.
The Panthers have cut running back Lamar Smith Smith who was charged with drunken driving and was put on paid leave by the Panthers for the final 5 games of the season. Smith lead the Panthers last season with 737 yards rushing and tied a team record with seven rushing touchdowns.
Davis is number one on the Panther wish list to replace Smith, but another Smith, Emmitt the NFL All-Time leading rusher is a possibility as well to be the Panthers starting running back next season. The Panthers have talked with Emmitt Smith's agent about bring him to Charlotte for a visit.
Deshaun Foster a rookie last year who the Panthers had high hopes for injured his knee and there is still some question, if will be able to be 100% again.
The Panthers could also draft a running back in the first few round in April.
