University of Alabama-Birmingham DE/OLB Hassan McKeithan is a football player who loves the game of football and will do anything to get on the field. He is a player who has shown possibilities and flashes of greatness, who has the size and the athletic ability to play at the next level. McKeithan has shown that he is willing to play wherever the coaches want him to play, and was recruited to UAB to play tight end, but he switched to the defensive side of the ball when there was injuries to help the team out.
"I'm willing to do whatever it takes to help the team the win and get on the field, playing outside linebacker, defensive end, defensive tackle, tight end, fullback or wherever," said McKeithan.
McKeithan played in 11 games in 2002, collecting 50 tackles, 7 tackle for loss, 2 sacks, 4 pass break-ups, 3 quarter back hurries, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
"The highlight is my able to stop the run, I help to contribute to the # 1 rush defense last year and I am a consistent hard worker," said McKeithan.
In 2001 he played behind the Jets first round draft choice Bryan Thomas and also played on the same defensive line with defensive tackle Eddie Freeman who was a second round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs.
"Both Bryan and Eddie have shown me a lot about football and what it takes to get to the next level and I think that I have the skills to do that," said McKeithan.
In 11 games in 2001 McKeithan, with Thomas and Freeman on the same defensive line recorded 25 tackles 10 solo, 15 assists, with three sacks blocked potential game-tying field goal in key 17-14 C-USA win at Memphis. He recorded season-high five tackles against Houston.
"In the Houston game I hit the running back so hard I broke some of his ribs, we had what we call the "kill" shot and I had a lot of what we called the "kill" shot in many of our games," said McKeithan.
McKeithan played on special teams all four years at UAB and was the special team captain his junior and senior season.
"I loved playing special teams, I played on both kick team and punt team as well. I help set up some big returns and was the key block in the big return we had against Central Florida," said McKeithan.
