Bam did well for the Pats on the scout team and performed whenever he was given a chance. Just his luck to have 29 WR's ahead of him on the roster. There has to be a team who could use someone like him.

I'm hoping that either (a) they were waiting on Harrington/Simms/AnyoneButCassel to be released before making that move or (b) they figure O'Connell will be the #2 next year and, well, Cassel does know the system. Really surprising tho given how bad Cassel played - even by his own dismal pre-season standards.
I don't know how that OL guy Connolly made the team. He was absolutely horrible. They really thought he was better than Flynn or Welborne? So our RG depth chart now at this moment is Billy Yates and Connolly. That's awful.

Look for a waiver claim on an OG... As soon as I saw it, I thought Andy Allerman.
Another former PAT CB was cut. Poole was released by DEN. He may not have the physical tools he used to, but would provide some depth and experience to our secondary. Also i'd be interested to see Ahmad Brooks here. I remember we were all high on him coming out of college. He was cut by CIN. He's still young and a physical beast, plus he played with Mayo in Virginia.
Personally I'm glad they went with Cassell over Gutz. Here's why. Gutz has practice squad eligibility, Cassel doesn't. Cassel has more experience in the offense. Cassel in the last two games didn't look that bad to me, especially considering how bad the offensive line was playing in front of him and the complete lack of a run game by the first unit. Gutz didn't do anything to make him a clear cut choice over Cassel. Sure he led a few TD drives, but he took too many sacks and turned the ball over way too much all while playing against 3rd and 4th stringers. I think everybody just hates Cassel for whatever reason and are ignoring Gutz' faults just because they don't want Cassel.
With that said, I don't think Cassel is a good backup QB, just better than Gutz at this point. If he could become more consistent he'd be ok, but no matter who the Pats backup is.. Cassel, O'Connel, or Gutz.. they will be in trouble if Brady goes down for more than a game.
I am not a huge fan of either Simms or Harrington, but they are good if not great QB's who are better than anything the Pats have backing up Brady now. I'd feel much better if they tried to sign either one of those guys.
It's too bad it didn't work out with Chad Jackson. C.J. Jones looked good in the preseason except for that first game where he dropped some sure catches. I imagine he beat Jackson out for the final receiver spot. Ray Ventrone can play receiver or defensive back so who knows what roles he'll have this season.
Not many people have been talking about Gary Guyton, but he was one of the best players for us this preseason. I wonder if he will be playing some LB this year or just primarily as a special teamer. He would bring some speed to the defense in situational plays. I believe he ran a 4.4 at the combine (fastest linebacker in the draft). He was the one who chased down Yamon Figurs and saved a punt return for a touchdown by pushing him out at the 1 yard line. He also had 10 solo tackles in the last preseaon game.
I thought CJax had at least showed some promise. But then again BB likes players who can do lots of things and Jones can return kicks and Ventrone can play DB. Though I guess they can always put him on the practice squad if no one grabs him.
Lynch is a huge surprise. There must be something they expected from him that just wasn't there. Maybe this means Junior is coming back? Or Law?
They added a TE, lose a WR ... maybe there's a RB signing somewhere on the horizon? Rudi?
How can they ditch Lynch and CJax and *keep* Cassel? Lord, I hope there's a really good reason for doing this. If they signed Rudi then it'd start to make some sense - we could have a really dominating ground game which also helps the defense.
BB is really counting on these young players to come through this year.
Reiss made a good point that they could very well bring Lynch back after week 1 so his salary wouldn't be guaranteed. It might be similar to the situation with Marcellus Rivers last year where they cut him like three times but told him "don't go too far we'll be calling you back".
