Miami linebacker Joey Porter decided that the Patriots - Dolphins rivalry didn't have enough juicy storylines this week, so he decided to throw his own name into the mix by denigrating Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel.
"I just know he's not a Tom Brady," Porter said. "So if it's not Tom Brady, it shouldn't be that hard."
If he was trying to compliment Brady, that would have been one thing. He actually took the comment a step further by claiming that the Patriots had little chance to win with Cassel under center.
"It'll be good to go out there and get our first victory," he said.
Porter isn't one to mince words in a rivalry, but then again, he's never played for Bill Parcells -- where opening your mouth before huge division game is a no-no.
Not only did Porter give the Patriots bulletin board material, he also worked hard to give them the defensive game plan.
"You treat him like you treat a backup," Porter said. "How do you prepare for a backup? He don't get that many snaps, right? So you throw the kitchen sink at him. That's what we're going to do."According to Dolphin Digest editor Alain Poupart, that type of commentary from Porter isn't unual. Maybe "next, he'll actually make a play," Poupart mocked.
Porter is widely considered one of the Dolphins' biggest free agent busts in recent history.
