Patriots - Steelers: Game Balls & Goats

The Patriots held on to defeat the Steelers 39-26 in a game that was over long before the score tightened up. Who did well, and who didn't? We hand out our game balls and goats.

Jon Scott:
Tom Brady --
Brady had his best game of the season, nearly flawless from start to finish. 30 of 43 passes for 350 yards and 3 TDs. Brady now 6-1 vs the Steelers.

Patriots Defense (through 3 quarters) -- Until the Patriots blew the game wide open, the New England defense played with pressure, poise and solid hitting. The score was 23-3 through three quarters.

Rob Gronkowski -- The rookie tight end turned in an impressive game, catching 5 passes for 72 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also helped with the blocking. Big recovery after a shaky game last week vs Browns.

James Christensen:
Tom Brady/Rob Gronkowski - Incredible play-fakes and accuracy by Brady led the Patriots four touchdown drives, three to the rookie tight-end, against the vaunted Steelers defense. Easily the best performance of the year by a guy with a bad foot.

Offensive Line/Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis - Opened up big holes for the Patriots running game and kept Tom Brady clean nearly the entire night. The Patriots rushed for more yards than anyone this year against Pittsburgh.

The Defense - Things got ugly late in the second half with Pittsburgh down multiple scores, but the defense kept Roethlisberger and the ground game bottled up for the majority of the night. Great performances by Mike Wright, Pat Chung, Jerod Mayo, and others.

Honorable Mentions:

Coaching, Pat Chung, BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Bill Belichick, Alge Crumpler

Prevent Defense --
Playing soft in the fourth quarter kept letting the Steelers back in the game. New Englnad had Roethlisberger beat when they limited him to just 182 yards 1TD and 1INT. Then the Pats relaxed allowing Roethlisberger to finish with 387 yards and 3 TDs.

Illegal Group Demonstration Penalty -
Come on, are you serious?

Dishonorable Mentions:

Shayne Graham (Missed PAT?)
