In a report by Mike Rodak of ESPN, the New England Patriots opted to let go of DE/LB Christian Cox. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Utah product originally joined the team as a rookie free agent on Aug. 2, 2011. Cox participated in one preseason game, an Aug. 11 matchup vs the Jacksonville Jaguars. He sustained a neck injury and was placed on injured reserve Aug. 19, 2011.
Shortly after getting injured, a play where Cox said he was blindsided,
he spoke with the Salt Lake Tribune
at a Utah football practice. Cox talked about the
play and the fallout from the injury.
"I have to have surgery so I can keep playing, which is a good thing,"
he said. "The Patriots are a class organization and they are taking
care of me."
Cox played defensive end at Utah where he earned All Mountain West
honors, and was one of the conference's standout defenders his senior
season. And though his rookie season came to an end before it
had a chance to begin, Cox appreciated what the Patriots were doing for
him after the injury.
"I'm just grateful the Patriots are who they are," he said. "They are a
