The Patriots signed free agent Anthony Gonzalez, the team announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Gonzalez visited the Patriots Friday, his first known stop in free agency. Injured much of the past three seasons, the Patriots wanted a
closer look at the former Colts pass catcher before offering him a contact.
Originally selected by Indianapolis in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft, the 6-foot, 193-pound Ohio State product appeared in just 11 games the past three years. He has 99 receptions for 1,307 yards and seven touchdowns over his five year career.
Gonzalez' best seasons was his second year in 2008 when he was part of Peyton Manning's receiving corps that included WRs Marvin Harrision, Reggie Wayne and TE Dallas Clark. RBs Dominic Rhodes and Joseph Addai were also a big part of the Colts'

Gonzalez was told by the Colts the club would not be extending him an offer this offseason, catapulting the receiver into free agency. He appeared in just 11 games the past three
seasons due to injuries.

The Patriots continue to pursue free agent WR Brandon Lloyd who has received interest from the 49ers as well.

in 2010, but suffered another injury which forced him to the injured reserve list for the second straight season. He returned to appear in

Gonzalez is a native of Cleveland, Ohio where he was a two-sport standout at Saint Ignatius High School in football and track. While playing at Ohio State, Gonzalez teamed with two other wide receivers who were drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft (Santonio Holmes and Ted Ginn, Jr.).
