Dolphins Dump Johnson

Chad Johnson's brief career with the Miami Dolphins is over. The Dolphins announced Sunday night they had terminated the contract of the flamboyant wide receiver, this coming after his Saturday arrest for domestic violence.

After Sunday afternoon's practice, Coach Joe Philbin said he would meet with Johnson "in the near future" to discuss his situation.

The latest incident obviously was too much for Philbin, who also was upset about Johnson's profanity-laced press conference a few days into camp.

Philbin was captured by the cameras of "Hard Knocks" admonishing Johnson for his press conference, pointing out that he needed to represent the organization in a more classy manner.

Johnson didn't catch a pass in Friday's preseason opener against Tampa Bay, dropping the only ball thrown his way. It came on a third-and-3 from the Bucs 33-yard line on the Dolphins' first possession of the game, forcing a 51-yard field goal attempt that was wide right.

Johnson also dropped a third-down pass the previous weekend in the team's intrasquad scrimmage.

The Dolphins signed Johnson in June, four days after he was released by New England after one forgettable season with the Patriots.

The former Miami Beach High star was hoping to resurrect his career in his hometown, telling reporters after a minicamp session in June, "Enjoy the show."

The show is now over.
