The NFL season is coming to its final stages with teams trying get on a hot streak or keep their winning ways heading down the homestretch. One of the hottest teams in the NFL right now is the New York Giants, who after defeating the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday 27-13 extended their winning streak to four straight games. The Giants, who started the season off 0-6, are now 4-6 and are only a game and a half out of first place in the NFC East.
During their four game winning streak, the Giants have seen tremendous play from their defense which hasn't given up a passing touchdown since their last loss against the Chicago Bears. Giants middle linebacker Jon Beason talked about the Giants defense shutting down opposing offenses.
"The goal is never to give up any points, whether it's running or throwing the ball, noted Beason. " Anytime you're shutting teams out, it's something special, it's something that is extremely hard to do in this league."
The start of the success the defense has had during this winning streak came from the its play second half of the Bears game according to Beason.
"You notice that guys are making less mistakes in the second half of the Chicago game," said Beason. "Guys are doing their jobs, guys are playing harder and faster and once you know you can do something, confidence is the number one thing you need enforced. If you're a confident player or confident team, the sky is really the limit."
Because of the confidence they have gained as a unit, the Giants defense has been able to build momentum through it and have all the confidence in the world going into Sunday's huge NFC East showdown with the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants do know though that even though they are on this four winning streak, that everything goes out the window when the Giants and Cowboys face off
""Regardless of if we were rolling the way we are now going into this week, we know that it's still Giants/Cowboys and it's still going to be one of those games," said Beason. "It's going to be very chippy and we're going to want to knock them off because it's a heated rivalry and guys usually come and play because it's usually a great football game."
One thing for sure about playing the Cowboys is that the Giants defense will not need any motivation going into the game.
"This week, if you're looking for motivation for this week, something is wrong with you," said Beason. "Those guys over there, they're talented every year. Romo is a great quarterback. He can buy time with his legs, he makes unbelievable plays. It's a typical Giants-Cowboys matchup and you have to expect that. We're not looking for any extra motivation or motivations there."
If the Giants defense can stop Romo and the rest of the Cowboys offense, they will keep their winning streak going and keep themselves in heart of the race for the NFC East division crown.
