Ty Law was the premiere shut-down cornerback on three Super Bowl Championships in New England.
In his first year of eligibility, Law was selected by fans as the 2014 Patriots Hall of Fame inductee. The announcement was made by the team today. Law beat out Raymond Clayborn and head coach Bill Parcells for the coveted spot.
The former cornerback was chosen as New England's first-round draft pick in 1995 from Michigan University. In his ten seasons with the team, Law was selected into the Pro Bowl four times, helped the Patriots win three Super Bowl rings and was All-Pro twice. In addition, his 36 interceptions is tied with Clayborn as the franchise record.
Law had 583 interception-return yards during his time in Foxboro, the most in team history. He also holds the Patriots' record for most interceptions returned for touchdowns (6). Law is a member of New England's all-1990s and all-2000s decade teams as well as the NFL 2000s All-Decade team.
"Ty Law was one of the greatest players in franchise history and one of the premiere corners in the NFL during his Patriots career. The fans have helped validate that with this year's hall of fame selection," CEO Robert Kraft said. "We have had an incredible run of success and the building blocks started with players like Ty. He was an important part of three Super Bowl championship teams. It will be an honor to bring Ty back to celebrate his career as he takes his rightful place in our team's hall of fame. I am sure he will deliver another memorable moment during his hall of fame ceremony, too."
Law is the twenty-second inductee into the Patriots Hall of Fame, being only the fourth player to be chosen in his first year of eligibility. Tedy Bruschi, Troy Brown and Drew Bledsoe are the only other players to be selected in this category.
The Hall of Ceremony will be held outside at the Hall at Patriot Place on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Law will also be honored in the half-time ceremony in Week 7 when the Patriots battle the New York Jets on October 16th.
