Daelin Hayes profile

Committed to:

Pos Rank: #6 OLB
State Rank: 1
6-3 | 225
Outside Linebacker
Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary's

His Recruiting Story:
Hayes played up with the varsity as a freshman, and carried that experience into the summer when he attended a few camps and began hearing from more and more schools. As a sophomore, he was injured early and missed much of the year, but his physical tools and athleticism allowed him to earn offers from around the country in the offseason. Michigan State was first, then Michigan followed with Ohio State, Penn State, Minnesota and others eventually coming through. He earned a Notre Dame offer at their Irish Invasion camp in the Summer. At various points in time, Hayes seemed ready to commit. In fact, he had set an announcement date in the spring, but later decided against it. However, on a visit to USC, he was offered, and the visit was so outstanding, he committed before returning home.

"The trip was flat out amazing from start to finish, he said. "It's overwhelming with great things to do, great people to meet. I love this school and I am fully committed."

Where We've Seen Him:
Adidas Invitational (2013), vs. Oak Park (2013), Workout (2014), Sound Mind Sound Body (2014), Irish Invasion (2014)

Scouting Report:
The basic summation of Hayes as a prospect right now is, he has high-end physical gifts and great work ethic. The flip side is, he has played very limited minutes at the varsity level because of injury. As a result, he is a little bit tough to evaluate. In camps and workouts, he more than looks the part. He is long, very athletic and has the range, speed and agility to be a big time outside linebacker. What is not entirely known yet are his instincts for the position and just how physical he is. The great thing is, he's very smart and works very hard.

Overall: There is no doubt Hayes has everything you can want from a prospect in terms of tools. This season will tell us a lot about him as we will get to see him with the pads on for an extended period of time. That said, we feel comfortable with his projection because he has the intangibles to go along with his given gifts.
