When the Patriots let Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen walk in free agency, most assumed New England had solid depth and they would figure out how to replace them. LeGarrette Blount would take the role of Ridley and see the bulk of the carries, at least that was the plan until Blount went down with a sprained MCL in practice yesterday.
According to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe, Blount avoided major injury and is expected to be back for the start of the regular season. Blount is suspended for the opener versus Pittsburgh due to an arrest in preseason of 2014 as a member of the Steelers.
With Blount and Tyler Gaffney sidelined, it will allow backs Jonas Gray and Brandon Bolden to get more reps.
