AFC Divisional Playoffs Live Blog: Patriots vs. Chiefs

The Patriots and the Chiefs battle for a berth in the AFC Title Game. Join us live!

3:47- It's inactives time; let's take a look at who's out for today's game:

Patriots: T LaAdrian Waddle, G Tre' Jackson, LB Jon Bostic, WR Chris Harper, S Tavon Wilson, DL Ishmaaily Kitchen, DL Geneo Grissom

Chiefs: QB Aaron Murray,CB Marcus Cooper, LB Ramik Wilson, C Mitch Morse, G Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, DT David King, DL Rakeem Nunez-Roches

4:36- Brady and the offense get this game rolling; let's see how the protection looks.

4:43- Touchdown, Patriots!! Rob Gronkowski with an eight yard touchdown catch to cap an excellent Patriots drive. Julian Edelman and Gronkowski each had huge catches on third and long to make the drive happen. Patriots 7, Chiefs 0

5:03- The Chiefs put together a strong, time-consuming drive but they stalled in the red zone and were forced to settle for a 34-yard Cairo Santos field goal. New England needs to clean in up on third down and start getting a pass rush or they might have a long day. Patriots 7, Chiefs 3

5:12- Missed opportunity for the Patriots on that series; Brady missed Amendola on a crossing route that would have gone for a huge gain, and then Edelman had a drop that put them in another third and long. Patriots 7, Chiefs 3

5:20- The Patriots defense gets a huge stop and the Patriots offense will take over at their own eight. The Chiefs offense are making plays for short yardage, but as the game goes on, New England will continue to tighten up and slow this Chiefs offense to a stop. Let's see if Brady and the offense can put a scoring drive together and give the defense a much needed breather. Patriots 7, Chiefs 3

5:25- An ugly three-and-out for the Patriots offense and the Chiefs, after a strong return by Hammond, take over at the Patriots 35. The defense needs to bail out the offense and special teams yet again. Patriots 7, Chiefs 3

5:29- Great work by the Patriots defense, driving the Chiefs back three yards and not even allowing them a field goal attempt. Danny Amendola was called for a bogus penalty; he's allowed to hit the guy on defense, and he led with the shoulder. Either way, New England's offense is back on the field and will start the series at their own 2 and a half yard line. Patriots 7, Chiefs 3

5:44- Touchdown, Patriots!! Tom Brady leads a 98 yard drive and caps it with a 10 yard run on second down and then the sneak into the end zone to up their lead to eleven. Steven Jackson had a few strong runs, which will give the Chiefs something else they have to worry about. Tom Brady looks as fired up as I've ever seen him today. Patriots 14, Chiefs 3

6:03- Kansas City with a strong drive to end the half but once again they have to settle for the field goal, but they did cut it to a one score lead. New England isn't getting much of a pass rush, but the defense has tightened up in the red zone like they always do. Patriots 14, Chiefs 6

6:26- The Chiefs were putting together a strong drive, but Knile Davis fumbled and the Patriots defense picks up a huge turnover. Chandler Jones forced the fumble; good for him, he needs some positive vibes. New England takes over at the Chiefs 31 yard line. Brady and Co. will try and pick up some kind of score, preferably a touchdown. Patriots 14, Chiefs 6

6:33- Touchdown, Patriots!! Rob Gronkowski strikes again, this time on a nicely designed pump-and-go to fool Eric Berry. The Patriots take advantage of the Chiefs huge turnover, picking up seven points and pushing their lead to two touchdowns. Julian Edelman had a nice run on a jet sweep, James White had a strong catch-and-run, and of course Brady looked great on the drive. Patriots 21, Chiefs 6

6:46- Touchdown, Chiefs. Alex Smith and the Kansas City offense put together a drive that was an absolute must if they want to come back in this game. The Patriots pass rush has been awful today, and there was one play on the drive that gave people visions of Eli Manning and David Tyree, but Brady and the offense will now get their chance to push the lead back to where it was. Patriots 21, Chiefs 13

6:54- That's the end of three quarters, with the Patriots holding an eight-point lead and possession of the ball at the Chiefs 25. New England is in a position where any kind of score is big because KC only has so many more possessions, so the goal here is to get points. Patriots 21, Chiefs 13

6:58- Field Goal, Patriots! Stephen Gostkowski connects from 40 yards out to push the Patriots lead back to 11. Tom Brady made some clutch throws and James White had a strong drive to help the Patriots pick up the score. Patriots 24, Chiefs 13

7:06- New England's defense steps up and forces the three-and-out followed by an excellent Danny Amendola punt return to setup Brady and the offense at the Chiefs 35 yard line. This could be game if the Patriots score a touchdown; even a field goal would be big because it pushes the lead to two touchdowns. Patriots 24, Chiefs 13

7:10- Field Goal, Patriots! Brady drives the offense down to the 14 yard line, but they couldn't pick up the touchdown (blatant illegal contact on Edelman in the end zone was ignored) so Stephen Gostkowski comes in a kicks a 32 yard field goal to push the lead to two touchdowns. Patriots 27, Chiefs 13

7:40- Sorry for the delay, technical difficulties over here. The Chiefs are at the Patriots two yard line with two minutes to go....

7:44- Touchdown, Chiefs. Kansas City goes on a long drive and cuts the lead to seven wiyh 1:13 to go in the game. The Chiefs will attempt the onside kick and they have three timeouts remaining, so this game is far from over. Patriots 27, Chiefs 20

7:48- Rob Gronkowski with the onside kick recovery and the Patriots take over at the Chiefs 48 yard line. Patriots 27, Chiefs 20

7:50- A tipped ball lands in Julian Edelman's hands on second down and the Patriots pick up the game clinching first down. Tom Brady and the offense will get into victory formation, down it three times and the Patriots will head to their fifth AFC Championship Game in a row, an amazing feat for maybe the greatest dynasty in the history of the game.
