Larry Centers returns to the Patriots

The Patriots have re-signed fullback Larry Centers and have released WR JJ Stokes...

The Patriots announced on Tuesday that they have released WR JJ Stokes and have re-signed fourteen-year veteran FB Larry Centers.

Centers signed a one-year contract with the Patriots during the Summer, and played six games with the team prior to being released. When Centers was waived in October due to a knee injury, PatriotsInsider reported that he might return later in the year. According to his injury settlement, Tuesday was the first day Centers could have re-signed.

While with the club, Centers rushed fifteen times for 69 yards, and caught seventeen passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. When he was released, Centers was tied for the team lead in receptions.

Stokes signed last month due to a series of injuries suffered by the Pats at the wide receiver position. The Patriots were his third team in the 2003 season.
