Free Agency: Patriots Sign Chad Scott
Former Pittsburgh Steeler Chad Scott, CB, agreed to terms with the New England Patriots. Scott was a first-round draft pick (24th overall), in 1997.
The 6-1, 202 LB, cornerback has a history of injuries that contributed to his departure from the Steel City. Scott was on a Steelers defense, which was considered one of the best, statistically ranked as one of the top ten in pass defense yardage the last couple years.
Scott played for eight seasons with the Steelers and was released by the team this season after they decided to move forward with Willie Williams. Williams was signed when Scott went down with injuries. He replaced the injured Scott at mid-season and played well enough to keep the job once Scott returned.
Scott will compete with fellow cornerbacks: Asante Samuel, Randall Gay, Tyrone Poole, Hank Poteat who return from last year; Free agent additions Duane Starks and Ike Charleton; and recently drafted Ellis Hobbs.
