The all-important Week 9 action begins on Saturday evening as the defending champion Berlin Thunder (6- 2) visits a Frankfurt Galaxy (3-5) team that is eliminated from World Bowl contention despite a victory last week. On Sunday afternoon, the Hamburg Sea Devils (4-4) travel to face the Amsterdam Admirals (5-3) knowing back-to-back wins are a must to keep realistic hopes of a championship game appearance alive. The weekend's action concludes on Sunday as local rivals go head to head with the Rhein Fire (1-7) making the short trip to face the Cologne Centurions (5-3) in a showdown that could have huge World Bowl implications.

The action gets underway in Frankfurt, Germany, where the league-leading Thunder will aim to stay on course for a fourth World Bowl appearance in the past five years. Thunder head coach RICK LANTZ says of his squad: "I am extremely proud of my team. I can't say enough about this team's effort this season. It was a big and important win for us in Hamburg and we never gave up fighting.”

After seeing his club pick up their third victory of a difficult season last weekend, Galaxy head coach MIKE JONES says: "A lot of our record is down to injuries. We have 18 new guys on our roster who were not with us in training camp and we have struggled. We have to take the blame for some of what has gone on this season but overall I would say this is a good group of kids.”

On Sunday, the Admirals will look to complete an unbeaten season on home soil as they welcome the Sea Devils to Amsterdam ArenA. Following Monday night's defeat of Cologne, Admirals head coach BART ANDRUS says: "We showed we can be a tough football team and this victory stemmed from a total team effort. Cologne gave us some challenges and they had a good game plan but we were able to overcome them.”

Sea Devils head coach JACK BICKNELL remains in optimistic mood, despite seeing his side suffer a reverse at the hands of the Thunder last weekend. He says of that defeat: "We are disappointed because that was a game we felt we could have won. We were throwing the ball too much in the second half and we need to be able to run the ball more to keep thepressure off.”

Week 9 ends with local rivals going head to head as the Fire makes the short trip along the Rhein River to take on the Cologne Centurions for the Rhein Cup. Both teams are coming off losses - Rhein at home to the Galaxy and the Centurions at Amsterdam on Monday evening. Cologne head coach PETER VAAS says: "We look forward to playing the Rhein Fire this week. I would love to play them on Wednesday if we could. This team has done a great job all season and I will not lose patience with my players because we lost to Amsterdam. I thought we played a very good offensive football team in the Admirals and I don't think I coached very well.” Fire head coach PETE KUHARCHEK saw his team fall to a seventh defeat of the season last weekend and said: "I thought our guys were ready to play but we couldn't get anything going early. We got off to a bad start and turnovers killed us. That was pretty much the story of the game.”
