Roster Cuts Loom
By Patriots Insider Staff
FOXBOROUGH Tuesday is the day for NFL clubs to pare their rosters to the 65-man limit, not including NFL Europe exemptions. The Patriots will be announcing their cuts come close of business in the NFL mandated reporting period, which should be around 4:00 pm Tuesday.
Some of the players on the roster are sweating the first round of cuts knowing that it's likely they'll be asked to turn in their playbook and head on down to the coaches office to receive the bad news.
Of those players, a number will sign on with other clubs looking to benefit from the league requirement restricting roster size. Regardless of the decisions made today, there will be one final round of cuts made prior to the season opener.
At that time rosters will need to shrink to the league maximum of 53 active players. Teams will be allowed to re-sign some of their players to the practice squad, up to a limit of 8, meaning there will likely be 63 faces in or around Foxboro during the season.
PI will bring you the latest news on the cuts and the impact they will have on the team after the Patriots release the list to the media.
