Patriots Sign WR Reche Caldwell

The New England Patriots were able to land one free agent target who visited Foxborough. WR Reche Caldwell agreed to terms with New England on Friday adding much-needed depth to a unit depleted by free agency losses.

The Patriots signed unrestricted free agent wide receiver Reche Caldwell today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Originally drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the 2002 NFL Draft (48th overall), Caldwell has managed 76 receptions for 950 yards and 7 touchdowns. The 6-foot, 215-pound former Florida Gator has played in 47 career games with 14 starts

A part time kick returner, Caldwell will help fill the void left by the departures of David Givens and Andre Davis. Givens, a 4-year veteran in New England signed with the Tennessee Titans earlier this week. Davis joined the Buffalo Bills to be reunited with this former quarterback Kelly Holcomb.

Patriots' fans may remember Caldwell's 28-yard touchdown catch against the Patriots last season (pictured above). It was part of the Chargers 41-17 victory at Foxborough and the second longest touchdown of that game behind Tim Dwight's thirty-yard hookup.
