Patriots Visitor News Update

While the Draft inches ever closer, teams continue to work out Draft prospects and fly players in for private visits. This week is no exception for the New England Patriots who have another top rated defender scheduled to arrive shortly.

Patriots Insider has been tracking the visitors and private workouts the team has conducted during the off-season. Lately it's been a flurry of activity on the defensive front as the team continues to work out top ranked safeties and corners with the expectation of one being available when their turn arrives to make their selection.

CB Richard Marshall has been on the list, as regulars to Patriots Insider know. first reported the team's interest in the Fresno State product nearly a month ago. Since then Patriots Insider has reported two of his meetings/visits with the team.

Antonio Cromartie worked out for the Patriots. In an article yesterday's Aaron Wilson reported that Cromartie was visiting the Ravens with a number of other stops on his list. The Patriots, one of the teams interested in the Florida State product have been keeping tabs on the talented defensive back as he works on making a full recovery from a a major knee injury, not unlike Rodney Harrison's injury.

In today's news, Patriots Insider Jon Scott has a Q & A with USC's safety Darnell Bing. Bing who spoke with Patriots Insider last week, talked about a number of items including what USC head coach Pete Carroll told him about his decision to leave school early. Patriots Insider and were the first to report that Bing's agent confirmed the former Trojan will be in Pittsburgh on Tuesday and then in Foxborough on Wednesday for private visits as part of his pre draft schedule.

Back to the Pac-10 for more news on two defensive backs the Patriots west coast scout staff worked out. One is a multitalented player who could fill the role of both defensive back and kick returner while the other has the size teams around the league look for in a defensive back.

Ohio State is high on the Patriots places to visit. Kicker Josh Huston met with Patriots special team's coach Brad Seely a week ago. LB Bobby carpenter reportedly had a visit with the team this week, and Patriots Insiders has learned that the team is talking with the OSU coaching staff about two other former Buckeyes. More Big Ten news includes the Patriots interest in Purdue's defensive end Rob Ninkovich. Ed Thompson interviewed Ninkovich to ask him about his workouts and pre draft visits. New England is one of a number of visits the former Boilermaker had planned before the Draft.
