-- The New England Patriots are scheduled to open their 2006 training camp on July 28th. Both veterans and rookies will be reporting on that day to Gillette Stadium. A report by the Fall River Herald previews what to expect from this year's Patriots training camp. Some of the interesting stories to follow will be the ongoing salary struggle of wide receiver Deion Branch and the development of rookie wide receiver Chad Jackson and veteran newcomer wide receiver Reche Caldwell.

-- The New England Patriot's starting quarterback Tom Brady is recognized as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. And many reports have given Brady the nod as being the best. A report by the Providence Journal speculates what would happen if Brady were injured during the season. -- The New England Patriot's offensive tackle Jeff Roehl was released on Thursday. Roehl has been on the Patriot's roster twice, signing in both January of 2005 and 2006. Roehl was a reserve for New England and could have been considered a longshot to make the roster in 2006.

-- The New York Jets have signed defensive lineman Titus Adams. Adams, their seventh-round draft choice, played his college ball for the University of Nebraska. Adams adds depth to a Jets defensive roster devoid of playmaker John Abraham who was traded to the Falcons during the offseason..

-- The Chicago Bears have released offensive tackle Qasim Mitchell along with linebacker Stephen Larsen. Mitchell is an interesting prospect due to his sheer size 6-5, 350-pounds. Considered a raw talent in Cleveland, Mitchell was picked up by the Bears to add depth to their line after the Browns released him. He was injured in NFL Europe and was cleared to participate in Chicago's upcoming training camp according to The Bear Report.

-- Former Cleveland Brown linebacker Galen Fiss has died at the age of 75. He was captain of the last championship Browns team in 1964.

-- ESPN SportsNation is taking a poll to see if fans think that the Dolphins are ready to challenge the Patriots for the division title.

-- Patriots Insider's Kevin Saleeba reports that Rodney Harrison is a vital component of the Patriots defense. "In the first eight games without Harrison, opposing quarterbacks scorched the Patriots for 16 touchdown passes and only four interceptions. Saleeba points out. "Five times the quarterback had a passer rating of 112.1 or more."

-- The Patriots have signed sixth-round draft pick Le Kevin Smith to a contract. Smith, one of the team's three sixth-round picks, was a standout defensive lineman at Nebraska, and is expected to compete for a reserve role on the defensive line behind Vince Wilfork at nose tackle.
