Newswire: Bruschi Out, Berlin In, Tucker Gone

News from around the web includes: New England Patriots starting linebacker Tedy Bruschi to miss all preseason games; Patriots safety Rodney Harrison is a welcome sight; Patriots cornerback Randall Gay ready to regain his old playing form and Patriots defensive back Ellis Hobbs moves to the left side of the field.

The New England Patriots have announced that starting linebacker Tedy Bruschi will miss all 4 preseason games. The Ledger is reporting that Bruschi's status for the Patriots season opener against Buffalo is questionable. Bruschi has missed the past 10 practices and was more than likely injured during the morning practice on July 31st. Veteran linebacker Barry Gardner has been getting a lot of reps at inside linebacker.

The Boston Herald is reporting that according to sources, Bruschi injured the scaphoid bone in his wrist which could take at least six weeks to heal if surgery is required.

After suffering a season ending injury last year against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Patriots' starting safety Rodney Harrison made his return to the practice field. Harrison helped bring a ‘bad' attitude to the Patriot's defense. "He's a warrior - everybody knows that," Patriots defensive back Randall Gay said. "You can just tell by how he plays on the field... I was watching at home when he hurt (his knee) and I said, ‘If anybody can come back from that, it's Rodney Harrison.' I'm waiting for the day he steps on the field (for a game)."

Patriots defensive back Randall Gay, also known as "Blue" took over during the 2004 season when cornerback Ty Law went down with a broken foot. The Providence Journal reports that during 15 games in Gay's rookie season, he had 34 tackles and 2 interceptions. The next season Gay was sidelined with an unusual ankle injury. Now that the ankle has mended, Gay is looking forward to getting his old playing form back.

Cornerback Ellis Hobbs has been on the left side of the field during training camp. This could mean that the Patriots intend to start Hobbs at the left cornerback position, the same position that Ty Law played. The left side of the field is often reserved for the strongest cornerbacks.

The New England Patriots have signed free agent wide receiver Eddie Berlin. His addition will help bolster the deleted ranks of wide receiver.

The New England Patriots have traded offensive lineman Ross Tucker to the Cleveland Browns. Compensation will be an undisclosed draft pick. Tucker was a reserve for the Patriots. He played in one game during the 2005 season.
